Yet another oddly ambiguous issue on a dating app whose support team is little to no help with. Surprise surprise.
The “Something went wrong, please try again.” issue pertains to users unable to log in, and the reasons vary from technical to intentional.
Are you banned? Are the servers under maintenance? Who knows? But that’s what I’m here to answer.
If you see this image, it’s most likely because you’re trying (but failing) to log into your Grindr account.
- Grindr’s intentionally keeping you away.
It’s quite possible for Grindr to have suspended your account due to you potentially breaking one of their rules.
If so, they’re knowingly making it impossible for you to access their platform.
- In-app issues.
Just because it’s a multi-million dollar company doesn’t mean it’s safe from technical issues. Such issues may be the root of this specific problem.
To see if this is indeed the case, you can check Grindr’s current status in Grindr.com or DownDetector.
- You are using a VPN.
Simply put, VPNs have their downsides too!
One of the downsides is slow internet and the inability to use certain platforms if VPN use is illegal in your country.
- Incorrect log-in info.
Double-check to make sure you’re using the right email, Facebook profile, Google Account, or Apple ID.
Furthermore, ensure that your password is correct — be careful of that cheeky Caps Lock key.
- Problems on your end.
This calls for restarting your device, Wi-Fi, or updating the Grindr app on your phone.
The most common instance is poor internet connection, which I highly advise you to check as it might prevent you from logging in.
- You’re traveling to a country where Grindr doesn’t work.
Are you on the road and unexpectedly experiencing this issue? Know that if that’s the case, some countries do not take too kindly to the concept of dating apps.
We have the internet’s greatest minds trying to solve this issue, taking every single possible cause into account.
Now, some might help your case and some might not, so I will tell you which do what because I value your time.
* Try this if you’ve been banned, or suspended, or if you simply don’t want to use your phone number.
As sad as you might be, you will most likely have to create a new Grindr account if you plan on using the app again…as many people were forced to.

It shouldn’t even take a day as big-name brands like Grindr, Tinder, Bumble, etc., have a lot of people overseeing the technical parts of their platforms.
* Perfect if you’re experiencing trouble with your Wi-Fi.
If your Grindr experience is being affected by your internet connection, you have 2 options:
- Your phone data;
- A different Wi-Fi connection.
This isn’t a solution only to slow internet, by the way!
If you’re making a new Grindr account after being suspended/banned, doing so on a different internet connection will mask your IP Address and prevent Grindr from recognizing you.
* Worth trying out if Grindr is lagging or if your device is acting up.
On Android phones, there’s this thing called Force Stop: it puts an end to an app’s functions temporarily until we open it back up, and it’s great for unresponsive apps.
Go to your Settings -> Apps -> Grindr and you should see the Force Stop button at the bottom of your screen.
To maximize this function’s effect, it is recommended you delete Grindr’s cache first: Settings -> Apps -> Grindr -> Storage -> Delete Cache.
Tip: Delete Grindr’s app cache on its own as well to see if it helps anything. Experiment away!
* Do this ONLY if your Grindr is slowing down due to an outdated app.
Don’t worry. We all have a couple of apps we postpone updating, unaware of the consequences.
Go to the App Store or Google Play (or wherever you downloaded Grindr) and type “Grindr” on the search bar.
If an update is available, you should see a button that looks something like this:
* Tackles technical issues induced by either Grindr and/or your device.
Yes, we’re basically slapping the TV remote, hoping it finally works. You’ll see how we don’t have many options to draw from.
Uninstall your Grindr app by tapping and holding it. Once you do, re-install it again. See if you can log in again.
Please, make sure your internet connection is stable and you’re putting in the right information or all of your hard work will go to waste.
* A last resort if your device is the one wreaking havoc.
Lastly, the very last thing you can do…reset your phone or log in on another device.
This might just work if something on your phone/PC is keeping you from logging in — Wi-Fi, IP Address, having been banned in the past, and so forth.
Another way to…beg for more insight regarding this issue is by contacting Grindr Support, which many people have tried and failed to do.
You can choose the “I am experiencing a bug” prompt and specify your issue further down below. You can write something like:
“Hi. I am having an issue with logging into my Grindr account; every time I try doing so, I get a message saying ‘Something went wrong, please try again’. I have tried everything within my power to confirm there’s nothing wrong on my part, which leads me to believe it’s something you can help with.”
It might take days or even weeks for them to respond (if they do), so feel free to try this if you’re in no rush.
If you don’t want to wait, however, you have plenty of solutions to choose from.
